Age group 1 (11 months – 3 years)

General goals: The education of a pre-school child is successful when parents and kindergarten work well together, help each other and share the same goal – to teach the child to be independent in eating, dressing and hygiene, to be responsible, and to accept the rules and positive values of society.

At the French Kindergarten in Ljubljana, we encourage children’s exploration of their immediate surroundings and their personal expression through play, dance, music and art activities.

Typical day in the first age group:

  • Early Stimulation Activities: 8.00-9.30
  • Morning snack: 9.30-10.00
  • Early Stimulation Activities: 10.00-11.30
  • Lunch 11.30-12.00
  • Naptime 12.00-14.30
  • Afternoon snack: 14.30-14.45

After 15.00 – organised activities within the kindergarten (outdoor exercise, art activities, music lessons, dance, free play, group activities).

The programme is taught in French, with English lessons integrated. Children can be enrolled throughout the year and do not need any prior knowledge of French. Our kindergarten is attended by children from Slovenian, French and bilingual families, as well as children of foreigners temporarily staying in Slovenia.

The teaching programme includes not only French language lessons, but also an introduction to French culture, etiquette, festivals and cuisine. A wide range of French books is available for children to borrow from our school library.

First days in the kindergarten: the introduction time is adapted to the needs of the child.

Children in nursery (11 months to 2 YO)

On the first day, a parent stays with the child for a while to explore the corners of the playroom, meet new friends and get to know the nursery routine. On the second day, the parent leaves the child in the nursery until the morning snack. We extend the time and somewhere within a week the child is able to stay for the naptime for the first time.

Children from 2 to 3 years old:

On the first day, the parent stays with the child for a while to explore the corners of the playroom and meet new friends and get to know the kindergarten routine. On the second day, the parent leaves the child at the kindergarten until lunchtime. On the third day, the children are already able to stay until the end of the day.

 Our timetable:

The kindergarten is open every day from 8.00 to 15.00, with morning care from 7.30 to 8.00 and afternoon care with extra-curricular activities from 15.00 to 17.00. The group is accompanied in its educational activities by two professionally trained French-speaking workers.

The kindergarten follows the French teaching calendar and is divided into 6 to 7-week periods of teaching activities followed by two weeks of holidays. The calendar for this school year can be found here.
